This spring, Epona & Oak has bloomed in downtown Raleigh’s City Market. The sisters Cheryl, Leeann, and Katie Hynes made their official debut with cheers and champagne toasts at the shop’s grand opening on April 29, and continued the festivities the next night on May’s First Friday. Epona & Oak brings the Hynes family talents and care for the community together in a boutique that offers handmade jewelry, t-shirts, and totes, massage, Reiki and other wellness services. The shop owners have gone from their original idea to this successful opening with the help of many friends. Being a participant in, and promoter of community is important to the sisters, and you can feel and see that commitment when you’re in the bright and airy Epona & Oak space. In the front of the store there are delicious soaps and lotions, t-shirts and handbags made by independent designers. A feature of the boutique is the handmade jewelry, some of which is fashioned by Leeann, the owner/designer of Stir Studios as well as a co-producer of the Handmaidens, a North Carolina collective of artists, designers and crafters. Ann Polesnak, a friend of the Hynes who will be working at Epona & Oak, said that she’s really glad to see that the folks who have already found the shop always find something perfect for a gift or a treat for themselves. “I really like that we’re able to offer handmade art you can wear, but that it is also affordable,” she said.
The other side of Epona & Oak is the array of wellness services it offers that center around Cheryl’s massages and Katie’s Reiki. There are two rooms in the shop designed for quiet and comfort where clients can enjoy a little pampering. “It’s important to cultivate inside happiness all the time, but lately the outside world is throwing some really scary stuff at us all. I really hope I can help my clients ease some of that stress through massage,” said Cheryl. Katie adds to Epona & Oak’s client well being services through Reiki, a technique that focuses on the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit. Katie and Cheryl can also offer clients guidance on other holistic approaches to health.
Epona & Oak will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Sisters be gettin’ it DONE!
I had a trigger point massage from Cheri last week and it was an amazing experience! Their shop is also one of the most relaxing, welcoming, and inspiring places I have visited in Raleigh. As Cheri Hynes put it, “It’s handmade up front and hands-on in back”.
Way to go, girls!
p.s. The organic cotton tees are butter-soft. Yum yum.
