Escazu Chocolates Gets Cool Hunted

Cool Hunting is a blog. You’ve probably heard of it. It’s a place to scout out “cool stuff” created around the world through the eyes of a handful of bloggers that are out there digging for the newest and “coolest” of food, design, culture, etc.

On one of the latest posts on Cool Hunting, local dessert favorite Escazu Chocolates have been listed under Five Foods with a Kick (Train your tongue with our round-up of chili-infused products). “For those looking for a Scoville-rated snack, or if you just want to eat something that will put hair on your chest, we put together a few current favorites in the spicy department.” Hair on your chest indeed, although my father always said that was accomplished with peanut butter on hot dogs. Oh, how things change.

The blog has a quick blurb on Escazu stating:

Escazú Artisan Chocolates is a bean-to-bar artisanal chocolate-maker producing a few unusual bars that we’re currently obsessing over. Their EZCA Carenero bar features 60% Venezuelan chocolate with Goat’s milk, lending the “dark” bar an addictive tang. It’s available for $6 from Escazú‘s online store. Their Roasted Pumpkin Seeds and Guajillo Chili is a combo with a kick in a 74% Carenero bar that we haven’t experienced anywhere else. Check with Escazú to order these too.

We couldn’t agree more. Escazú is very addictive and delicious. Seems like it’s dessert week on New Raleigh as Locopops was just touted by Details Mag on Monday. We could go down the list of great dessert joints in this town that deserve this recognition, but Escazu and Locopops are definitely two in the top tier (maybe Crumb is next).
