We told you a few weeks ago that Empire Eats was opening a new Thai restaurant in place of The Duck and Dumpling on Blount Street in Downtown Raleigh with Chef William D'Auvray at the helm. Fai Thai is now open serving thai soups, curries, satays and more. Below is the food menu with prices that barely touch $13 at most. We're quite sure that Fai Thai will become a new favorite for Raleigh residents. Check it out and let us know what you think.

Empire Eats Empire Properties Fai Thai
A+++ will do business with again.
Awesome!!! Tried a fish, chicken and veggie dish…all were excellent and we can’t wait to go back!!
Wish they were open for lunch. Any word if eventually they’ll do that?
Their menu looks a bit limited to me compared to many of the Thai restaurants I’ve been too. This looks more like a late night menu to me than full. I’m a bit confused given their hours.
Empire has been very successful with their menus and this one seems to fit the same mold. Not sure they are trying to compete with your classic 200 item shopping center thai place. I would say that with a special or two this looks to be a solid full menu. Its a sad day when 11 starters/soups and 15 main courses + 9 skewer selections isn’t considered a “full menu”. I would much prefer well prepped/presented fresh dishes with 25 choices over a 100 item menu with less care and attention to each dish.
How is the pad thai?
Who on Earth decided not to open for weekday lunch? Epic fail. Lunch is when people are actually downtown.
Being open for lunch is essential downtown. I work F-ville Street and would love to try it, but at night, I have many more options in and around Raleigh.
We went for dinner and had a horrible experience…we didn’t receive all of our food and the meat was dry. Hopefully things will improve, but I won’t be going back..
Within the next two weeks they should be open for lunch.
you guys are crazy..this place is amazing!!!
“Lunch is when people are actually downtown. ”
It’s not every day that you see a time traveler from the mid-90s posting on the internet.
I just noticed on the drink menu that they sell Tecate. Because when I eat Thai food, I want to wash it down with Mexican piss beer.
What kind of government subsidy does Empire Eats get for employing all of the otherwise useless hipsters downtown?
Went for dinner last week…we ordered the beef tenderloin skewers, kow pad sapalot and masaman. The Chinese sausage was different than we imagined it would be, wasn’t our favorite, but still good and the rest of the dish was great. We loved their take on masaman! I showed the menu to my Thai friend who is very picky about her food and only goes to a couple Thai places around here, and she said the menu looks great, it has different dishes than what you can find elsewhere. My thoughts exactly! We almost ordered the pad thai but decided to get something we can’t get anywhere else.

LMFAO
My wife and I were talking about this the other day. We are looking forward to trying this!
@phillo “It’s not every day that you see a time traveler from the mid-90s posting on the internet”
LMFAO! HAAAHHAAHAHA!
I went last night. Everything I had was great.
Went last night and tried several different items. All were very good and good wine as well.
@phillo My bad you are right… All of the rush hour traffic is backed up trying to get into town at 6pm every night.
@Chris: Who the hell goes out at 6pm?
sheesh people, calm down. they will probably have lunch before you know it.
@Phillo: some people could be going downtown to work evenings, not just “going out”. and yes, some people make dinner plans at 6. *gasp* with all the people who work downtown during the day but live a half hr away, myself included, lunch is the most feasible for us, especially on weekdays.
Sorry but this restaurant was really disappointing. If you’re looking for Thai food, look elsewhere. They may have some “Thai” dishes on their menu that aren’t served at other local restaurants but the flavors are not Thai at all. We ordered pork “satay” that tasted more like Jamaican or Hawaiian. My wife ordered “Gaang Tae Poe”, a sour curry, was actually quite bland. Same thing for the “kow mok gai”, bland, missing spices, boring even. Overall, very disappointed in the food. The chef is apparently French trained, has no Thai background or experience and it really shows.
On a high note, the decor was nice, liked seeing the Thai umbrellas above and the Thai tapestries on the wall. Didn’t see any cliche Thai monks around. Also, the drinks were nice, especially the Mai Thai.
I get the feeling Chris is one of the many rednecks that goes back to Fuquay around 5:30pm.
Hackles is right! All Raleigh wants is huge menus (when everybody ends up ordering the same things anyway), cheap food, and huge portions- and they will sacrifice quality without even thinking about it. God forbid just one of the 20 Thai restaurants doesn’t have a menu that is 4 pages long and uses tubs of premade curries and sauce/soup bases.
“jamaican or hawaiian”? right, because those places and their cuisines are so much alike. which is it? or does everything closer to the equator all taste the same?
Boo-Ya to you Raleigh.

I heard that whatever it is, we can all plan to meet back here to bitch about it.
Thaiphoon has great food, too. Althought, I hate going anywhere near Glenwood South!
you people are a bunch of stupid whiners ... such cliche americans. sheesh
Thank you, KIR! I’ve been all over the world, and outside of the US people never whine. Also they never ever complain about food.
I’d love it if more people here were condescending douchebags who tried hard to seem superficially cosmopolitan on the internet.
Ciao!
@King, “superficially cosmopolitan” lol
it’s true, in the U.S. people complain too much…i cannot stand going out to eat with co-workers who are picky eaters and then complain about what they ordered and want to send it back—not just once in a blue moon, but all the time! i know they have never been to a 3rd world country or they would quit acting so annoying. the end.
Yes, my dear, everywhere outside of the US is a 3rd world country. That must be why only Americans complain about food! How very astute!
Ciao!
@King—omg you really ARE a d-bag, inferring things i never said. i didn’t take YOUR generalizations literally. pssh
The flavors are good, but the portions are small, even on the “large plates”. The soups, at $13 are kind of a rip off. They bring out a huge bowl, but it is only half full, so it’s really only enough for two appetizer portions, not enough for 3-4 people as our server claimed. Service was mediocre. She was nice and attentive, but didn’t seem to really know anything about the menu items. I think there are better options in town that are more economical. Thaiphoon is just as good (maybe better) and the portions are huge.
@riley—i love Thaiphoon myself, but i heard their food is not all made from scratch. therefore bigger portions are less expensive. think (American) Chinese food.
I went recently and thought it was awesome. Asparagus wrapped in pork belly and spare ribs in curry, crazy good. Service was great actually, you could tell our waitress genuinely loved the food there, and gave good descriptions for everything we asked about. They even gave us some free food because there was an accidental double order. Not to mention, they made a smart move hiring one of the best bartenders in Raleigh, I was wondering why I hadn’t seen that guy at Foundation in a while. Rum Old Fashioned and Mai Thai were delicious. I think D’Auvray got more right here, what needs tweaking with Buku. He focused on one cuisine, got the details right, and it rocks. I’ll be back, again and again.
I went with a friend their opening week. I got the clam soup, pretty good but TOO SALTY. My friend got the massaman curry and it was pretty awesome from what I tried. We got the shrimp skewers, tasty but kind of expensive for what they were. Coconut crepes for dessert were fantastic. But really I thought the best thing we ordered were the cocktails.
I love the place, but WHAT is with the ghetto signage out front? Is it just me or does this look like some pop up thai place doomed to fail with that signage?
To me it look like a Thai restaurant to me.
