Farmers’ Market Restaurant Closed for Repairs
Winter Hibernation
Over the next eight weeks, the Farmers’ Market Restaurant will be closing its doors to customers as needed repairs and renovations are made to the building. The work will include updates to the heating/air-conditioning system, repairs to drains and walls, and installation of new kitchen equipment.
Owner Gyspy Gilliam is committed to a March 7th re-opening date, and says there will be some exciting new features when the restaurant comes back online - including outdoor seating, and dinner hours Thursday thru Saturday.

Nowhere in this article or the one that was in the N&O did I see mention of the seafood restaurant at the Farmer’s Market. Will it remain open during this time?

The NC Seafood Restaurant at the Farmers’ Market and the Farmers’ Market vendors will be unaffected by the renovations to the State Farmers’ Market Restaurant.

I took my grandparents here a year ago thinking it would be a neat lunch for them. We were very unimpressed…Our service was bad and our food was worse (and I’m not picky). Did we just go on a bad day???

Eh, I mean it’s decent, but nothing like you’d get cooking a southern breakfast at home. I think the best part is the atmosphere and being able to stroll over to the market afterwards. It’s not a life-changing restaurant by any means but usually satisfying on Sunday morning if you can avoid waiting too long to be seated.

Hopefully the food will be better when they reopen. I went a couple of months ago for lunch and was so disappointed. I remember the food being very tasty in a homecooked sort of way. The vegetables were not fresh, which was surprising since they are at the farmer’s market. The fried chicken was precooked, not cooked to order, and the biscuits were on the heavy side. The tea was also very watery. I haven’t been back since. I noticed that day that it was not nearly as crowded as it used to be. After lunch that question of surprise was answered. Hope things improve.

Ditto on the food. Went with a friend a few months ago and it wasn’t that great. Haven’t been back since.
