The holy grail of beer, to some, Fat Tire has been hanging around the Raleigh area for over two months now. New Belgium Brewing took their time to enter the North Carolina market and did so with only draft beer at lots of bars and restaurants as well as 22 oz. bottles. This was very kind of the company to tease us for a bit, but now they have come around to their senses and started dropping off 6 packs of the amber ale and their summer seasonal brew Skinny Dip in many of your local markets.

Also, Sweetwater Brewing out of Atlanta, Georgia has started shipping in 6 packs of a couple of their well known beers (including Blue, 420 and the IPA). They are available in lots of outlets around the downtown area. But don’t fret, I’m sure their available in the burbs too.

Peace Street Market is also carrying Yancy’s Wine, both Chardonnay and Cabernet. Odd.

Beer lovers rejoice! And wine lovers drink at your own risk?!

I assume the Yancey’s is leftover stock from the restaurant?

Fat Tire bottles were at Cameron Village Harris Teeter last time I went.

Acquiring New Belgium’s year round line up and Sweetwater is hardly “The Holy Grail.”  Sweetwater is alright.  Their IPA is good.  New Belgium’s Fat Tire is all hype.

I get the impression from speaking with Fat Tire drinkers from the West, that it may lose some of it’s “holy crap” punch on the journey.  Kind of like how Coors was in the 70’s.  I was underwhelmed when I tried it.

fat tire is what you drink when you’re trying to say you’ve got pbr sensibilities but a few extra dollars.

Everyone is a beer snob…. I am happy Fat Tire is in town but what I really want is a “Blue Paddle”. “Skinny Dip” is good and “Sunshine Wheat” was as good as their new their new wheat beer….. but “Blue Paddle” is the “Holy Crap”.

I have “Fat Tire in cans” ... You guys are so yesterday with your six pack bottles!!!

Holy grail of beers?  It’s not that good.  Methinks they have some super marketing people, they sell it at half of the gas stations in Wake.

wow, I would probably caution anyone from investing too much $$$ in that Yancy’s wine. Not sure what it’s selling for, but it’s definitely iffy whether it has been properly stored, and Peace Street is generally on the hot side climate-wise so there’s probably a much greater chance some or all of these bottles are corked. Generally I won’t spend more than $10-12 on a bottle of wine from Peace Street Market, but the Yancy’s wine is a pretty cool novelty and might be perfectly fine. If anyone has tried it, I would be interested to hear what you think!

Do we really need a beer shipped from Fort Collins, CO to be the “holy grail” when we have some really good local brews?  I’ll stick with Angry Angel.  Support local industry and lower the carbon footprint.

Sweetwater has already had a few beers at a few locations in bottles for a little while now.  Sweetwater in kegs arrived very recently to Harris Wholesale in Raleigh.  Their salespeople are pretty aggressively pushing it out.  Expect to see it on tap at more “mainstream” places that have more than just a few taps very, very soon.

You guys are right, no one cares about beer and wine.  I don’t know why anyone would write an article about products that make for a multi-billion dollar industry.  NewRaleigh, you should take this article down so the bandwith could be better utilized downloading porn and the latest X-Men movie.

Alaskan Amber is hands down the best amber beer from the west

The Zimbezi beer in Harare, Zimbabwe is better than the Alaskan Amber, and Cape Town’s Castle Larger is quite good.

Who doesn’t care about when new beer hits Raleigh??  Yeah I know Fat Tire has been here for two months and it’s popularity is more about the fact that you couldn’t get it here than about taste. Yes, Newraleigh should be reporting when ALL new beer hits Raleigh (Stone, Bear Republic, Founders, Smuttynose, Thirsty Dog) and not just beers with a cult following. But hey…Raleigh is a good beer city (one of the best in the southeast) and new beer is most definitely a relavent topic. F the haters. And for the Eco-concerned carbon footprint poster above…you should really read into New Belgiums’ process (and some other west coast brewers) and see how environmental progression is unfolding in the brewing world. I love all good beer, not just local.

Fat Tire only being good because we could not get it does not explain the growth of their market. It is a good beer!!! .

A funny note. While all yawl were soaking up all those two dollar Pabst, they were making Schlitz in a bottle in North Carolina and shipping it to its orginal hometown.

The joke on us is we do not get all of NB’s products… Have you ever tried their Spring Board?

    De gustibus non est disputandum.

Typical Raleigh - why don’t we just hang out at Slim’s and talk shit about anyone who doesn’t order PBR.

    God, Raleigh is hip..

Hurray that New Belgium (Fat Tire) beer is here! New Belgium’s brewery is based in Colorado and is the 1st 100% wind-powered brewery. The brewery is employee owned and to date has donated $1.6 million to local communities. Bravo! So, if you can’t buy organic or from local microbreweries give Fat Tire a try. I feel great spending my hard earned money with a company that cares about the environment as much as they do their profits!

Beer lovers will rejoice when AleSmith and Three Floyds makes it here, Sweetwater and New Belgium…eh, I’m not running to the store, but hey, when it comes to my beer selection in the store….the more the merrier.

Sweetwater makes a tasty IPA, but Fat Tire fell flat on me, I’ll try others before I make up my mind.

I like Sweetwater, but it’s a touch over-hopped for me.  I’ll never tell you that Fat Tire is the BEST beer I have ever had, but it’s very good, haters be damned.  Side note: Found out this weekend that Fat Tire is also served at the DBAP.  Nice little surprise there.  It even had a shorter line than that of the more local Foothills Brewing Company.
