Chris Plankers has struggled like many artists, although his struggles are not of the artistic nature. Back in 2006, he was mugged and left with some heavy medical bills. Plankers had no insurance at the time. The community pulled their resources together and with the help of The Bleeding Hearts, The Trousers and the long-gone Kings, Plankers was able to put a dent in those bills. A few months later, Chris Plankers, along with other Raleigh Hatchet artists had a showcase of their visual contributions to the Hatchet. Much of Plankers work collected many of those “special dots”. That show was an example of how much his work is appreciated, not to mention admired in the homes of some Triangle residents.
Feast your eyes on some of the pieces that were featured from that show:

King Diamond, MCing Heavy Metal Bingo.

Gregulator (Greg Eyman, Hatchet’s movie guru) as a child with his Mom n’ Pop.

Gregulator as an adult, tripping the light-camera-action fantastic, in his time machine.
These illustrations merely skim the surface of the mind that has created some memorable and, at times, ridiculously hilarious cartoons. His legacy could be important to future Raleigh artists and those creative types who can only be immortilized through their work. Making your way to Slim’s on Friday can give you the priviledge to see a moment in time. The soundtrack for the evening pairs well with Plankers art. Sir Arthur and the Royal Knights will kick out “Lancelot” and other jams. Rocket Cottage’s early 80’s post-punk aesthetic plays first. Its a great opportunity for a cheap ($3), good time.

Both bands rocked it and Plankers collected dots on every piece.
