Did Independence Day cause you miss First Friday this month? You have a second chance this Friday, July 11. You also have the opportunity to ride the First Friday Trolley’s “new and improved” route, a 15 minute loop connecting downtown’s scattered galleries.

When will downtown Raleigh show a consistent interest in art, not just on the first Friday but throughout the month? It is past time for Raleigh’s galleries to raise the bar and make some events happen, such as Rebus Fest and Adam Cave’s recent BLEIGHM show. If enough galleries will go the extra mile, then our lack of a central arts district will become advantageous. Imagine a downtown peppered with cultural happenings on a regular basis.

The following businesses will celebrate July’s “First” Friday on Friday, July 11:

What DTR needs is guerilla artists like Banksy to pretty up an otherwise bland looking town.  And police need to turn a blind eye to it.

We have bort - thats the worst banksy ripoff ever and it just looks dirty around town. We have some amazing train car writers but you wont see their work on other public property.

Well Borf isn’t really Borf anymore.  The real Borf was arrested in DC a few years back.  Now you just have a bunch of copycat taggers that are like Monty Python fans with spray cans, just copying what they have seen before.  Badly.

I saw on the City Market web site that most of the City Market galleries will be participating in the July 11 “First” Friday. They’ll also have the usual band in residence that night.

We’ve put the word out to the street performers, so if any of them show, it will seem like a regular First Friday night in City Market.
