Hopscotch weekend slid by with great weather and no Hurricanes.  Lets hope the same can be said for forthcoming SPARKcon celebrations.  North Carolina has a long and torrid history of hurricane nightmares. Geographically, the Crystal Coast juts out into the Atlantic, seeming to beckon the biggest baddest storms to batter its frail string of Outer Banks. Closing in on the height of our hurricane season, New Raleigh takes a glance at some of the worst storms in state history.

    Irene was particularly bad in my area. I’m glad I got out of there in time, but I owe it to my hurricane windows for standing up to those winds. Hopefully though, I never have to deal with anything as torrid as the hurricanes on that list.
