Retail

FM Goods and Sound

image

Beside Firefly Shoes and Bistro 607 (one of the best eateries in Downtown Raleigh) on Glenwood South, a new boutique has popped up this summer.  This time it’s not a doggy boutique, but a boutique for people.  FM Goods and Sounds is finally one of the only shops on Glenwood South to actually sell music, clothing and shoes (except Firefly of course).  Most of the vinyl and clothes are street wear oriented, with brands like Vans, DC, North Cack, Diamond, Mishka, Crooks and Castles, each of which are brands that are prominent on the urban streets of New York City. Interior graphics of the shop are by local artist Adam Peele.  I have stopped by a couple of times to buy a shirt or two and attended their grand opening and most recent First Friday party for the release of Marcq Brooks’ book The Roman Alphabet.  Inside, music was flowing and the store was packed of young Raleigh folk, chatting and looking at shoes.  Outside, the white picket fenced yard was full of people, spilling over onto the sidewalk.  It was definitely a lively party.  Tonight is Joe Williford of Complex Photography showing photos with Design by Mad Conscious and music by DJ Tommy L.  The owners are very friendly and helpful guys, interested in music, clothing and funny Canadian TV shows like Trailer Park Boys.  The after party is usually at Mosquito (or this SITE), as it will be tonight.

statement from the owners:

“This weekend is tax free weekend! All shoes and apparel will have no sales tax! We still have the 25-40% sale going on a bunch of sneakers and clothes, so if you have had your eye on something, now is the time! We can’t wait to see everybody Friday night - come drink some beers with us, check out some new art, and get some really good deals. See you then.“
