Despite being told that they would be first on the agenda at today's Law and Public Safety meeting, Lucas Kinnin and the local grassroots food truck advocates were put off until late January's meeting because the Downtown Raleigh Alliance has yet to complete their research on the food trucks issue.

That means we have some time to gather some support for next month's meeting to join Lucas. If anyone wants more information, email us at editors@newraleigh.com

Who the hell is the Downtown Raleigh Alliance? And why do they matter?

Don’t we have a city council? Why can’t they do their OWN damn research? You know, the objective kind.

Here in Raleigh, we put all the hard work off on a private/commercial entity call the Downtown Raleigh Alliance. We also pay them a boatload of public money as well. Oh and don’t forget the coercion of smaller downtown businesses. I wonder how much you get paid to be part of the board? Funny how several of them already work in public service…

I emailed the Downtown Raleigh Alliance to ask if they were planning to survey their members - restaurants and non-restaurants both - to see what the members think about food trucks. Seems to me the very least the DRA should be doing right now.

    Get with it Raleigh!

Austin, Texas has hundreds of food trailers—yes, food trailers, not trucks. These ‘establishments’ create a vibrant culture of variety and allow underutilized, unbuilt property to remain useful for property owners, restaurant owners and food patrons. There’s even an annual food trailer festival—Gypsy Picnic—to celebrate and showcase the variety and flexibility of this service medium.

There are some serious gourmet eats available,  Flip Happy Crepes, Cazamance, Odd Duck Farm to Trailer, Lulu B’s, G’Raj Mahal, just to name a few. Look them up!

Think Food trucks would be GREAT for the Raleigh area.
Need to bring more business into and around the city.
Can be GREAT innovative food service places for people who are on the go with little time but want quick good food.
