Fourteen Bar Replaces Downtown Event Center

Raleigh Music Hall, Martin Street Music Hall, and Downtown Event Center all Rest in Peace. You now have a new successor with the hope to survive in this fantastic, yet cursed spot in Downtown Raleigh. The bar will be called Fourteen and is located at 14 W. Martin St. above Alibi and Martin Street Pizza.

Only a temporary handwritten sign in graffiti font indicates that a new bar has emerged in the old music hall space. A couple of events have already been scheduled for the new space and New Raleigh will keep you posted on more information soon. Let’s hope the Martin Street Pizza meltdown does not ooze its way upstairs and once again become of the death of another downtown Raleigh music venue.

Fourteen was opened Friday night for a private party. One of the guys working the door let me up. It was mostly a frat scene. Completely generic decor. But it was a large space, with plenty of room for dancing, and enough bartenders working, so you didn’t have to wait long for a drink. It does seem like one of those places that could just close down in a moment’s notice. No real character to it. But the folks who were out there were super nice. And it’s always fun to have something new downtown.
