Frank Harmon Architect makes Architect Magazine’s Top List

Raleigh’s own starchitect, Frank Harmon, has won yet another award. This time making Architect Magazine’s top 50 firms for 2008. This isn’t the first bit of national coverage for the firm, which also won Residential Architect’s Top Firm for 2005, has been interviewed by Dwell Magazine, and won more design awards from the American Institute of Architects than we can list here. Prior to establishing his own firm 24 years ago, Frank worked under internationally renowned architects Richard Meier and Harwell Hamilton Harris.

Harmon’s winning design for the AIA NC Center for Architecture and Design (pictured above), is expected to act as both outreach vehicle for the American Institute of Architects, and an example of sustainable design for both Raleigh, and North Carolina at large. When he’s not busy running his award-winning firm, Frank also teaches at NC State’s College of Design.

The firm’s style, if it can be said to have one, is a delicate balance of North Carolina based vernacular, and 21st century modernism.

That looks like an exact replica of Helios on Glenwood Ave. in Raleigh.

Other than being narrow and tall (though this example is quite a bit taller in comparison), it is NOTHING like Helios on Glenwood!
