Raleigh has had better luck this year getting some good musical acts, but one gap left since the loss of Kings and Bickett is electronic. Luckily, Berkeley Cafe has stepped up to host Future Islands and Ear Pwr this Thursday.

If you’ve never seen either Future Islands or Ear Pwr, listen up. Both bands brandish an 80s-electronic, post-new wave sound. Formerly, Art Lord and the Self Portraits, Future Islands get crowds dancing and have toured with spaz-master Dan Deacon. Ear Pwr are like the little brother/sister in this electro movement. The duo bounce around the stage or floor (which is where they usually perform), singing about cats, waterslides and lollipops while playing keyboards and yelling through a megaphone. Bubblegum electro-pop at its best. The last time I saw Ear Pwr was actually at Bickett, which was the same night that Future Islands singer didn’t show up and the rest of the band played instrumental tracks in the dark. Oh Bickett, we miss thee.

Be prepared to dance and you might want to wear whatever neon colored clothing you can find. Sophie is my kitty and I think she’s pretty.
