Future of the U.S. Supreme Court panel Tonight at Morning Times

Tonight at the Morning Times from 6:45-8:15pm- Hear local legal heavy weights talk about the implications of this election on the future of the Supreme Court.

With this year’s election for president, there are many issues to consider: the economy, the war in Iraq, education, etc. But one issue will be crucial, how will the Supreme Court be affected by the vote we cast for President? Join nationally-regarded scholars in the Triangle, including from all of its law schools, to discuss these issues.

“Future of the U.S. Supreme Court” will be held this Wednesday evening, October 29, at the Morning Times Cafe Gallery (10 E. Hargett Street. 2nd floor gallery - beside Raleigh Times restaurant)in Downtown Raleigh from 6:45-8:15pm

Panel and Moderators:

Julius Chambers, Director of Center for Civil Rights and Clinical Professor of Law, UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law; former Chancellor, NC Central University; former Director Counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund in NYC (following Thurgood Marshall and Jack Greenberg); helped found NC’s first integrated law firm; helped successfully litigate landmark U.S. Supreme Court rulings in the areas of school busing, Title VII employment discrimination and legislative redistricting; first in class, UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law (1961).

Justice Robert F. “Bob” Orr, Executive Director, North Carolina Institute for Constitutional Law; former Associate Justice NC Supreme Court; former Judge, NC Court of Appeals; elected four times statewide by NC voters; Republican candidate for Governor in 2008.

Neil S. Siegel, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Law and Political Science, Duke University School of Law; former clerk for current Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg; served as special counsel to Senator Joseph Biden during confirmation hearings of now Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justice Samuel Alito; first in class, University of California, Berkeley (Boalt Hall) (2001).
