Nevermind the $2 billion dollar NC budget shortfall- Today Republican and Democrat representatives will join ‘civic groups’ in condemning gay marriage and proposing an amendment against it in the State constitution.

Senator Jim Forrester (R-Gaston), Representatives David Lewis (R-Harnett), James Crawford (D-Granville), Dewey Hill (D-Brunswick), and Pearl Burris-Floyd (R-Gaston, Cleveland) will join various religious and civic groups for a news conference at the Legislature on Tuesday.

North Carolina already has laws on the books that make gay marriage illegal, but in a news release sent out to the media Monday, the group said it is the only southern U.S. state that has not banned gay marriage with an amendment to the state constitution.

“Activist courts in Massachusetts, Connecticut and California (prior to the passage of Proposition 8 in November 2008) have overturned their state’s marriage laws and redefined marriage to include same-sex couples. It is only a matter of time before homosexual couples who reside in North Carolina obtain a marriage license in one or more of those states and file a lawsuit asking a judge to redefine our state’s marriage laws to include same-sex relationships,” read the release.

If you are against gay marriage than don’t get one, don’t waste the people’s time when there are acually important issues to deal with.

Many churches now support same-sex marriages and are performing them more or less routinely (United Church of Christ; and many Episcopal, Baptist, Presbyterian, and Lutheran churches).

Meanwhile, other churches are attempting to use the power of the government (state constitution) to force their particular religious beliefs on everyone else.

They must think their beliefs are too lame to stand on their own merits, if they need the government to enforce them on other people.

How in the world did the word LOVE get to be spelled h.a.t.e. Do they think we gays got up one morning and decided to be hated and persecuted so we became gay.  I really wish they would read that bible instead of hiding behind it.  I swear somewhere in that book there is a message of love to all not just a few.  I wonder if they have blacked those parts out like the CIA does on reports.  Maybe their church is not about LOVE but about biggotry and hate.  HmMmm makes you wonder

another example of politics-as-usual - honestly, if two people love each other, why shouldn’t they be able to marry? Moreover, the fact that these officials are waiting legislators’ time with a non-important wedge issue instead of proactively trying to address our financial crisis and the other 50,000 major problems that need to be fixed in North Carolina sickens me. Cmon NC, rise to the occasion here.

Waste of time, waste of money. Staight people are not very successful with marriage since about 60% end in divorce within two years so I don’t understand why they are so gun-ho to ban gays from it??

Please do not add amendment that limits the form of marriage only to opposite sex. Keep monagomy by allowing marriage between two people who love each other- whether straight or gay.
