Five years ago Epic Games released Gears of War on the XBox in what proved to be an immediate success. The brain child of Raleigh's own Cliff Blezinski, Gears of War has been one of the biggest titles for the Cary based game company and by affiliation a contributor to our local economy. With almost two million preorders and reviews that applaud the game for being "polished to near perfection."
Over 13 Million copies of Gears of War and Gears of War 2 were sold netting about $780 million in revenue. That kind of huge revenue and the many other gaming companies in the triangle area are just a few facts that underscore why NC needs a videogame council, like our film council, to focus on developing this sector as much as possible- it offers the biggest potential growth in entertainment based revenue for the state and local economies.
