Glenwood Dunkin’ Donuts Closing

The N&O is reporting that indeed, Dunkin’ Donuts will close today at 3pm. It didn’t look good from the initial sign slip.

This is the second business to close in the 222 building within a year of opening. European Espresso and Wine Cafe closed in April after only a few weeks open.

I wonder if this goes against their count of opening their 15,000th store earlier this week off the other end of Glenwood - http://tinyurl.com/l4x54g

i wish they could just start over on that lot.  such a waste.

The people who own the DD on Hboro St and Cary (1010/Kildaire) stores are about to open one in Clayton, so maybe that brings them back up.

because of all the cops downtown.

how does a business go out of business, in a matter of weeks? refering to the wine/espresso shop. it seems like any retail would need enough equity to keep it going for atleast a few months! and like most other business, it takes a couple of years to really make profits.

joebee - i think i read the owners of the espresso place were somehow involved in vin and decided to close both at the same time. no idea why they didn’t see that coming prior to opening, but it may have had more to do with vin closing than with business being bad.

    Tim Horton’s to the rescue!

  • joebee06/19 11:36 AM

    TIM HORTONS would ROCK

I won’t miss it. I experienced lame customer service both times I went there.

7 months and pulling the plug??  The sales there must have been ABYSMAL.

me think someone should open superficial yuppie meat market in donut space,or maybe deep south could open deep south 2 the bar hee hee heee heee me tickle poop out of self sometimes.hairy middle finger to glenwood souf.

Oh Sasquatch, we would get along together so well with my hair fetish.

  • Kevin06/19 04:27 PM

Not surprised..I had no problem with service the few times I went there but I was the only one in the shop. There was no parking (kiss of death for customers who want convenience) and a breugers next door. Having a competitor within walking distance is strike 2.

Who came up with that business plan?

Vin closing was news to me..

What Kevin said, and the two times we went there (one in early morning, one in afternoon) the donuts were pretty dry and tasteless…like they had been sitting out forever.  The kids said “yuck” and left parts behind…what kid doesn’t finish a donut?  They have never known a donut they didn’t like, but these were not worth stopping again for.

  • Clyde06/22 07:24 AM

Maybe they should use the space for a gym? Oh wait…  <snicker>

  • sally06/22 08:46 PM

C’mon - isn’t it obvious? If you’re on Glenwood South and you want a doughnut, you go to Krispy Kreme. Duh!

  • brc06/23 02:43 PM

The location was not meant for a dunkin…they should have located that store over on Fayetteville where people work.  I was going to stop a few times and they were closed.  I would think Glenwood South is more a late night kind of location.  All of us Yankees love Dunkin at 2am..!  They should have done a better job with selecting a site.

  • The Lance06/26 11:29 AM

They should use that space for one of those NY Pizza places or something that would be open until like 3-4AM on Thursday-Sunday.  While I know that the Snoop Dog is an all time drunk fave I do crave a slice of thin crust cheese around 2:45AM from time to time…

  • The Lance06/26 11:39 AM

Damn that was fast!  You are good…

  • MMI06/26 12:03 PM

Nah, it took me 9 whole minutes.  wink

  • kg06/26 03:56 PM

smart commentary by brc… i’m a krispy kreme man by default but if someone had the brains to drop a dunkin donuts on fayetteville st., i can’t help but imagine that they’d do very, very well.  of course i assume that part of the decision to locate on glenwood south had something to do with the condo building above it as well as west @ north but alas, as those condos obviously haven’t played out like some thought they would, traffic just wasn’t what it needed to be for survival.
