Some people hated the place, others considered it a second home. I used to stop in almost nightly a few years ago when I lived a few blocks away and would arrive at 9pm when the bar opened to have a few beers in a dark booth and get some work done on my laptop before everyone arrived. It was a bar that opened quietly and closed at very high decibels each night.
Many of us have our own stories of late night romps at Jackpot that start by dancing around a stuffed chicken named Cotton and ended with an end of night run down Hillsborough to Snoopy’s. Or some variation of that. Jackpot wasn’t for everyone, but for those who did frequent the bar, they will have fond memories for a long time. A Raleigh institution is gone (well, almost) and John Morris and crew over at Goodnight, Raleigh have documented the weekend’s antics for archive on the whole wide web. This is a very subtle, yet nice documentation of the end of an era in Raleigh.

Well he did say “almost”, Matt. And what the hell are you doing up at 9:30?
Oh, shit. Dey clock’s wrong.
fair enough.
That place is a dump, I’m glad its gone…
I wish it was still Bourbon St.
I heard a rumor that the Jackpot was just hurting for business, so they made up a story that they were closing. Still open! Pathetic.
