Earlier in the year, David Mueller released a 4 track LP entitled Oak City Version that he created for the Raleigh City Museum’s Abstractations exhibit under the name Heads on Sticks. The North Carolina Museum of Art later used one of the tracks in a very cool time lapse video of the installation of Congregation in the new gallery.
Heads on Sticks has been busy with its latest release, Mocking Bird, an eleven song album set to release this summer. As for the inspiration for the album, David said, “One night I was walking home late through Cameron Park and I heard, from several blocks away, a single mockingbird just going crazy. He was rapidly cycling through scores of different calls, each more intricate and strange than the last. I found the tree the bird was in and sat under it for about fifteen minutes, overwhelmed by the variety and sheer volume of its song. I was even able to record a sample of it and work it into the album as a sort of natural instrument. It became a kind of centerpiece for the material I was working on, hence the title.”
The album will release sometime this summer. More details to follow. In the meantime, enjoy Trompe-La-Mort off the album.
The image of the mockingbird has nothing to do with the album, but provides a nice visual, no? Graphics to be released at a later date.
