Our readers voiced their opinions on their favorite place to get a haircut back in July. A couple of salons received a good amount of votes, including Atomic Salon on Morgan Street. Maybe the article gave the salon some confidence, because Atomic is expanding into the space next door.
Formerly Creative Consignments (which closed quietly in December 2008), Atomic’s new space will feature a Japanese spa-like design, a larger reception area with expanded seating and wall-to-wall hair products for sale. Most of the hair products will be 100% organic and/or vegan. In addition the salon will add 5 new chairs and a color bar. The original “old school” Atomic will remain the same (chaotic kitschy vintage rockabilly), continuing to reflect the personality of the salon owner, Shannon Lamm. The “new school” side has been designed around the personality of the new co-owner, Joey Humphrey (soft, soothing, contemplative, consistent).
The expansion will be finished in April 2009, when they will host a grand opening celebration. In addition, Atomic Salon is now participating in the monthly First Friday Gallery Walk, featuring local art, refreshments, and special discounts on products. So go get your art cut on!
