SPARKcon is a finalist for the What Matter Innovation Award! The What Matters Innovation Award is given by the Triangle Community Foundation to a cutting-edge organization using innovation to address our region’s growth or diversity This year’s inaugural topic is A Diverse and Engaged Community. .

In order to win, SPARKcon needs votes!

Online voting will be open April 21-28 on TCF’s website: HERE . Individuals will be able to vote for the organization of their choice AS MANY TIMES AS THEY WOULD LIKE during that one week time period.

In 2010, the What Matters Innovation Award will celebrate a cutting – edge organization that collaborates, advocates, or innovates in order to address our region’s growth or diversity. Through this award, Triangle Community Foundation will recognize an organization whose approach to tackling our community’s issues is thoughtful, effective, and long-lasting.

SPARKcon is a innovative, multi-disciplinary art and design festival that celebrates creativity in the triangle. It is a program of Visual Art Exchange.
                                                                             
In 2009 SPARKcon consisted of more than 1100 artists participating in 40 events in at least 9 categories. Including art, music, gaming, fashion, poetry, dance and featured a bazaar, creative lectures, dance and kids activities. The 2009 event attracted 20,000 visitors. More than 70 orgnaizers have started to put together the program for the September 17-20, 2010 SPARKcon.

Through the innovative “open-source” interdisciplinary network of SPARKcon, SPARKcon encourages people of different backgrounds to get involved and plan events and activities that showcase their unique perspectives, talents and skills. This structure allows SPARKcon to reflect the communities of all of their creators, feel inclusive and build bridges.

The What Matters 2010 theme is: A Diverse and Engaged Community. The story of the Triangle is the story of America: growth, diversity, innovation. As a region that has grown robustly and has changed dramatically over the last decade, the Triangle now confronts a set of tensions, conflicts, and questions.
