The Triangle Business Journal reports that Solas owner Niall Hanley will bring a new restaurant to Glenwood - a 24-hour diner in the space formerly occupied by Hard Times Cafe.  The restaurant will serve classic American food.  Hanley has seen success in both Hibernian and the multi-million dollar Solas club.

With this trio of establishments, Niall looks to be vying for the same kind of control of Glenwood that we see from Rocky Top Hospitality.

I can’t help but think that should be “Triangle,” but I will say that I like it better your way.

Do y’all edit your copy? That little piece reads like spam email authored by a Nigerian scam artist.

Great news….we need a good late night diner.  Waffle House isn’t too bad, but its not a great #1 spot for late night eggs/hashbrowns/sausage gravy!

Saw this elsewhere.  Is this going to be a diner a la Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives or is this going to be an upscale version of a diner?  Only time will tell I guess.

This should be a great addition to the area but also seems like this could create the potential for a slew of problems like really really drunk people lingering around Glenwood South way into the early morning hours. I bet the cops aren’t thrilled nor are some of the people who live nearby. Nonetheless, I love the fact that in big cities like D.C. you can always find a late night diner after the bars close and it really does make those big nights out more enjoyable when you can spend another hour hanging out with your friends while grubbing out on some hashbrowns. Wonder if this place will have alcohol permits???

This is great news for Raleigh. I keep saying that we are missing a diner, a real late night diner. Not a chain either, Waffle House. Lets hope for pie at 4 a.m.!

If they do have an alcohol permit they will not be the first diner to do this. It seems to work best if the alcohol is kept in a separate bar area, another room, so that the door can be closed at a certain time and its out of sight and out of mind.

It sounds like a good addition to downtown, definitely a welcome one!

I like this idea——-super concept that fills a void in Glenwood South. I think that grilled cheese and chocolate pie need to be on the menu——nice fresh fruit too. I look forward to visiting once it is open.

Just please be a normal greasy spoon and not “upscale diner cuisine”.

From what I’ve heard, it is supposed to be a 50’s style diner theme. Whether or not it will have the typical Glennwood South price point, I do not know.

Sounds like a great addition to the Glenwood scene. Late night food options are a good thing. That being said, I wouldn’t call what is being proposed an actual “Diner”. It sounds more like a 24 hour restaurant that severs American fare. A diner has stools at a counter and a few booths along the window. If it has tables with chairs or outdoor seating on the patio, what you you got yourself is a restaurant that severs American fare and stays open 24 hours a day.

If anyone has ever been to one in the north they’d know it would be a great idea to make it like a Coney Island - 4am and coney dogs or a hani…  (drooling a bit like Homer right now)  They were always packed after the bars closed and gave you a legit option besides the disgusting hot dog vendors catering to the “too drunk to care” clientele.

Please don’t make this upscale or rely on boring, unnecessary 50s theme.  Just go look at the Silver Diner in Rockville, MD. Great menu, food and service.
