Hillsborough Schoolkids Moving Up the Street

As speculated in February, Menconi over at the N&O is reporting that the only remaining Schoolkids Records in North Carolina will be moving, because of cheaper rent. Let’s hope they are able to make some money in their new location or this may be the end of the independent music store (and one of the few places to buy vinyl) in the downtown area.

The new location will be across from the Bell Tower. Perfect, Sadlacks and Schoolkids!  A small music fest waiting to happen.

“Rent is much cheaper,” reports owner Mike Phillips. “Hopefully I can make that work for a while. [It’s] a little smaller space, a nice shape; some parking, not a ton. I will keep this thing open as long as I can without losing too much money.”

Schoolkids also sent out an email yesterday with some Holiday coupons(below or print them from their myspace page)

Well it will be closer to me now so I guess that is a good thing.

Hopefully they can survive.  This is one of the only places I buy music from.

I go out of my way to buy all my music from them.  It would be very depressing to see our last independent record store go out of business.  .

MMI:  Buddahs Belly has made their space smaller and supposedly Schoolkids is going in the space that Buddahs left.
