Downtown Raleigh has a very close relationship with mid century modern furniture. From Father & Sons, to the defunct Purple Armchair and now Hipsteria Modern, Downtown Raleigh continues to spawn shops that relieve you of the “Eames” search on Craigslist or eBay.
I discovered owner Benjamin Clark off of Craigslist and traveled to his North Raleigh home to look at a couple of pieces of Danish Modern furniture. Clark had a garage full of mid century furniture and was seemingly doing great business out of his house. As we continued to look for more furniture on Craigslist, Ben’s postings kept popping up. We ended up buying a couple of pieces from Ben and found out through conversation a couple of months ago that he would be opening a shop on Glenwood South.
Clark and his wife have been stocking the store for the past month and Saturday February 14th is the grand opening party at the basement furniture joint. The name says it all, Hipsteria Modern.
Hipsteria is the cool, new place to shop with confidence for mid-century furniture and accessories. You’ll find a wide selection of Eames era treasures, many by famous designers. Everything from Danish Modern dining tables to vintage lamps and original art. At Hipsteria, you don’t have to be an expert to get a great deal, just someone who appreciates mid-century style - or who knows someone who does.

They were (unofficially) open last first friday as well. Several of the pieces really are amazing and the prices, while somewhat expensive by some standard,s aren’t bad for what you’re getting.
I wish them all the best, but what an awful name for a store.
I like the name. I think it’s clever.
Sorry to say i had a really, really bad experience with Hipsteria..Very poor customer service and my piece was broken…What happened: I bought one of twin credenzas Ben had for sale. He couldn’t get my piece ready on time and gave me attitude when I tried to arrange pick-up even after I had paid for it. He said he would be “too busy to help me get the piece in my car.” When we did agree on a time, he didn’t even have it ready! Told me I was supposed to have called immediately before coming…And this was a WEEK after I purchased it.. I agreed to come back in a few hours, and when I returned, the piece still wasn’t ready: he said “he forgot and got busy..” — after having just seen me 3 hours before!!! All the piece needed was a change of legs and polishing. He did a quick, not very good job while I sat there and waited, and after getting the piece in my car, I saw that one side of it was loose. After all that, the piece was broken!! What a disappointing experience…I won’t be going back there…
Bought some chairs and books from Hipsteria this weekend, and as usual had a good experience. Good range of prices and variety of merchandise. Reliable place to find extremely cool / unusual / plain weird stuff. Why buy cookie-cutter pasteboard crap when you can come here?
Funny thing, I was looking on the site, at the ‘For Sale’ items. I came across these:

My wife has these EXACT same bar stools. She bought them at Pier One for a lot less.
Thought that was pretty hipsterical.
I bought a dresser from Ben and I really think I was ripped off. The drawers came apart when I started to use it. I asked for my money back and said “What do you expect for an old piece like this” I am asking my attorney to contact Hysterical Hipsteria.
Despite his big grand opening in the old factory building I don’t think I would waste my time or money on anything he has to sell.
