The crew over at the Hopscotch Music Festival have posted two previously unreleased tracks from local rockers The Rosebuds. The first track (“Secret Life of The Rosebuds”) is a Night of the Furies dark groove B-side that reminds me why 1: That album was so amazing and 2: Justin Vernon of Bon Iver can help create beautiful music (he produced the track), even if it’s not his own. The second track is a slo-mo cover of the Bee Gee’s hit Stayin’ Alive. Kelly and Ivan fell in love with the soprano disco bros a few years ago and decided to slow it down just a little. “Kelly had the idea to record it at a slower tempo to illustrate the heaviness of the lyrics,” says Howard. “This is what we came up with that day.”

The Rosebuds will continue to release one archival track every week for the rest of the year via various online outlets (maybe even right here) in anticipation of their fifth album. The new album is currently scheduled for release in early 2011. The band chose to launch the series with Hopscotch because of their excitement for the festival in their hometown. The tracks were previously only available on a tour only EP but you can download them and read more here.

A great day in new local music. Check out the new Kooley High album and tracks we’ve posted here. Kooley High will also be stopping by Hopscotch in September.
