Was checking out some Raleigh-centric videos on Vimeo, and came across this little one minute gem. Love the energy it has and the vibrant look at Raleigh’s early twenty something culture.

I didn’t watch the video, but if licking a bike tire is “making it”, I’m moving to Charlotte.
Good stuff. These people are obviously moving forward with their respective Personal Brands.
They are owed. You are owed. We are owed. Yes.

Great video! I guess I need to unlock my bike and start using it more.
Fixed queers.
Nice. Much better than anything “official” I’ve ever seen. could stand to have a tad less graffiti, however.
I LOVE this!!
nice….Goodnight Raleigh posted that a bit over a month ago…
it’s still a good video though.
vibrant unemployment rate
I saw it a couple a months ago on goodnight too, but always nice to watch it again ![]()
Ha. Missed it on Goodnight.
that chick at 0:43 with the white tank top is pretty cute. just sayin…
What the hell is “early twenty something culture.” What happens when you turn 25? Get a bike helmet I hope.
Looks like a Microsoft Kin commercial to me.
Goodnight posted it, but it’s from Triangle Fixies originally.
Does Raleigh no longer have sunlight? And when did this town become a graffiti-covered cool-dude-bike-riding hipster hangout?
Instigator - i think it’s more “how to make it in raleigh if you are hipster” or somethin….
i dunno…i think i “make it” just fine in raleigh…
Raleigh is what you make it…
HOW TO MAKE IT ANYWHERE: Get a job, bust your ass, and shut your trap.
Oh - and sell the bicycle/skateboard/unicycle to a deserving 12-year-old.
I’ve been waiting for someone to go where INSTIGATOR went. New Raleigh just threw up the ally-oop pass for someone to dunk it on the heads of hipsters. How to make it as an under 25 hipster in Raleigh? Lick a bike tire. How to make it in Raleigh as a normal adult? That’s something different.
There was a show on HBO about people in NY and it was called How To Make It In America. The opening credits featured this song and a bunch of pics of NYC folks. This is just a sort of remix of those opening credits w/ Raleigh pics. I like it, by the way.
Question….what exactly is a “hipster” ?? My assumption is that hipster = young moron on unemployment? Or is it all these idiots I see walking around with backpacks on EVEN THOUGH they are no longer in school, and those little white earphones plugged in 24/7? Or is a hipster one of these guys with the beard, the military fatigue cutoff shorts, and the buddy holly eyeglasses, drinking dark beer in a dimly-lit bar?
if only it meant “angry comment troll”
http://ow.ly/1WQH5
...if only it meant “self-promoting troll”
INSTIGATOR guy:
I know you see yourself as some sort of outspoken, pull no punches guy who isn’t afraid to say what others won’t….but you’re really just an insecure jerkoff in search of someone to feel superior to.
if you ‘over 25’ dudes are making it so well, how come you don’t have HBO dog?
Cute!
Hey 150,
Why would you even comment if you didn’t watch it? Move to Charlotte - please. This site, I swear! Get a life.
I like this video. It’s cool to have things like this which add an air of hip, trendy, fun to the city. The City Government should slap a city logo on it and post it on YouTube or something as a marketing video for the city.
nobody needs to get their knickers in a twist—this is just an expression of a scene within a city, put together (quite skillfully) by someone who finds his or herself belonging to both.
well hell, if making it in raleigh meant becoming friends with my urban outfitters hipster asshole co-workers, then i guess i’ve made it. now how to make it elsewhere…
@polly: Relax, I didn’t comment on the video.
Great video. Everyone should see the city by bike, fixed gear or no. Some people might find that the exercise makes them less of an asshole. Awesome energy, I hope the city never loses it.
Until people in Raleigh stop licking bike tires, this “city” will never truly be a city.
I got something right here she can lick! Aaoowww!
and the fake gd is still posting.
you’re still witty I see!
What about Wake County Speedway, Watkins Grill and Roller Derby? That’s how I make it in Raleigh. (BTW, didn’t see the video, but betting none of the above is in it.)
This video is great! The person who made this graduated from high school 2 years ago. Incredible!! Go Eagles!
I love it. Great show too
I’m a hipster. I don’t see anything wrong with it. Sure, I could wear boat shoes… not that there’s anything wrong with that.
HIPSTER: anyone whose perceived importance to society > actual importance to society.
I think it’s great you enjoy your unicycles, your juggling sticks and your antidisestablishmentarianism…..those things are all fine and good, and fun for the rest of us to watch…..but it ISN’T how you “make it” in any real sense, anywhere….unless by “make it” you mean “make it” as a drag on society.
this video is ONE MINUTE long. i don’t understand commenting on it without watching it.
Good point, Rachel. I watched it. I was right. No mention of grassroots racing at Wake County Speedway, the “come-for-the-food-stay-for-the-rude” attitude at Watkins Grill, or the Carolina Rollergirls. Thanks for helping validate my better instincts, Rach.
How is anyone (other than the yoga chicks I ogle) under 25 even relevant at this point? You have been drinking beer here (legally) for 4 years? My plate at the Saucer was in place before you were out of high school. And the music these days? Seriously. Other self-important comment here. Blah blah blah. And word on girl in white t-shirt. If you need help w/your tuition, please post.
Sweet Lincoln’s mullet.
@INSTIGATOR… just wanted to point out that you used Antidisestablishmentarianism wrong…It has nothing to do with society unless you’re a British person fighting the people fighting the Anglican Church. Just because you use long words dosn’t mean you’re smarter than everyone else.
Antidisestablishmentarianismesque is a great hose-got-cable record,
and to see even better, hipper, more relevant footage of Raleigh go to post-22.
I liked it.
The thing about Raleigh is that as more people come here, more is available. There’s a variety that’s blossoming and this video illustrates beautifully the perspective of its artist. It’s one perspective. It’s a beautiful and interesting perspective. It may not be mine, it may not be yours, but for Christ’s sake you don’t have to rip it (or the city) a new one because you didn’t see your version of Raleigh in it.
Open your minds. It’s a great video and extremely well done.
ezactly what I was trying to say, Merboy.
Amen Merboy - This video was made by a Raleigh native who assembled images of his friends in a little shoutout to his hometown. Im sure he did not set out to create a fair and balanced look at the city to be reproduced or commercialized. It was just good and so it got picked up. Lay off the judgment of the people in the video based on their style or hobbies. So what if he and his friends like to ride bikes? At least they are building community and culture and supporting the arts in this growing, evolving, changing, hopefully progressing town.
Very talented artist here! His Raleigh New Guinea composition is good too: http://vimeo.com/12472108
