Hue Raleigh Sets Up Office as Construction Continues

imageThere’s a certain love I have for a steel structure as it rises from the ground.  Maybe it’s the innocence or possibly the truth that lies in the skeletal profile.  Many condo buildings start with the modern wonder that was steel beams and are later covered with aesthetic brick or stucco.  The truth disappears.  As the construction of Hue Raleigh continues, this steel structure will fill up the entire block between Park Devereux and The Dawson.  Soon enough, this structure will be covered and the blue and yellow adhered, completing condo alley.  But, considering the slowing in the condo boom, will the Hue be able to sell its units?

Two blocks south, Hue Raleigh has set up an office to hopefully remedy this problem.  Located between Joe’s Place and Stuff Consignment is a small storefront that York Simpson Underwood has occupied as a downtown satellite office for years.  In the past couple of weeks, things have started to change behind the glass and it was just revealed in the past few days that this will now be the home base for Hue Raleigh to sell condos.  There’s a huge rendering just inside the front door and what looks to be a “model unit” space being installed in the back.  There’s even blue and yellow flooring.  It is a buyer’s market right now, but that is in the housing market.  Do condos apply and will this make costs drop?  Only time will tell and until then, the truth will frame the blue sky between beige stucco and red brick.  Maybe this will be the “not so gray lifestyle” they were referring to.

IF they do like they said they would, and focus on condos that are more affordable than most of what’s been selling in downtown over the past decade…then yes, they should be able to sell all their units.

There is NO shortage of people who want to live downtown.  At all.  There is, however, a shortage of people who have six-figure salaries moving there and buying overpriced luxury condos.
You offer condos at an affordable price (or better yet, apartments at a reasonable rental rate)...you’ll sell out quite quick I think.  Too few developers in downtown realize that most of us are not rich.  They need to get it in their heads.

It appears they are building a model of the exterior finishes and windows at the old cement plant, on Hargett, between Five Star and the Boylan Bridge.  hue.jpg

    Robert, that’s actually pretty funny.

Thanks Leebowitz, I had been wondering what this cool little structure was that I was walking past each day and JZ told me that it was an exterior finishes model and I meant to add it to this article.  Thanks for the image.  I’ll try to get some close ups today.
