How many Hurricanes will North Carolina get in 2011? Meteorologists' tools are becoming increasingly accurate in predicting movements once storms approach the East Coast, but nobody can know for sure what the Hurricane season holds. As we approach the peak of the 2011 Hurricane Season -- September 10 is historically the apex of the annual period -- this infographic peeks into North Carolina's history of hurricanes.

North Carolinians are no stranger to hurricanes, and 2011's Category 1 Irene just gave the East Coast its first taste of tropical winds and rain. The Triangle faired fairly well, as did the Outer Banks, compared to flooding up as far as New England.

Perhaps the season will be mild with relatively little damage, or we could receive major consecutive storms which result in majore power outages, Billions of dollars in damage and hundreds of lives. Either way, be sure that North Carolinians across the Eastern half of the state will be rushing out to buy milk and bread before the storm.
