Is the Water Bill Due? Learn more at April 14 community forum

Spring is here with summer around the corner.  Though it’s been raining, we’re still in a drought.  Wake County’s water supplies likely will be adequate through hot months ahead.  But as our population continues to swell in coming years, water supply remains a concern.  Wake County is number one in growth in the nation, with 43.5% growth over the past decade.  And given a projected doubling of population, where will our drinking water come from?

What’s more, Raleigh’s water and sewer rates have been relatively cheap compared to the rest of North Carolina cities.  But the public feels scolded when water rates have increased, despite good faith efforts of citizens to conserve water.  The fact is, we’re facing a national crisis of aging water and sewer infrastructure, and yes, our bill is coming due in the next few years.

So what’s the fair price to pay for water and sewer, especially as we need to plan for more people and growth?  How much water will we need?  Come hear from city, state and academic experts on these topics at a public forum hosted by WakeUP Wake County.  “Water:  Is the Bill Coming Due?”  Thursday, April 14, 7 pm at NCSU’s JC Raulston arboretum.  Free and open to the public.  Registration encouraged at www.wakeupwakecounty.org.

Just bought 2 nice glass bottles of Voss water at Whole Foods.  And when I get done I’m throwing them right in the regular trash.  Screw helping Mother Nature.  Look what she just did to all those poor people in Japan…

    pfft. That’s weak.

You should have gotten some Aquafina, bottled locally during the height of the drought. Don’t worry, you’ll get another chance this summer.

hasn’t it been proven that Japan suffered Earthquakes, tidal waves and nuclear meltdown because they don’t believe in Jesus?

We really need to be serious about our water supply. Water will probably be the thing that limits Raleigh’s growth, unless traffic congestion does it first. The water quality is a problem; they are learning more about the health effects of cyano-bacteria, algea, and other forms of pond scum. This is an important forum and I hope many others will be there.
