It’s Not Just You, AT&T’s Data Coverage is Down in Raleigh

Noitced that your 3G network on your iPhone has been jumping to Edge today and at some points, completely goes away? You aren’t the only one. It seems that AT&T is having some issues with their data service this morning in our area. Sadly, you probably aren’t even able to read this article or see the tweet b/c you rely on your phone for these things more than your desktop computer.

from AT&T:

Important Service Message: Some customers in your area are currently experiencing difficulty when attempting to access the Internet from their devices. We are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.

Note: Service is now working much better. No catastrophes here, yet.

Thanks for the update, I was wondering what was going on. This is not a good look for AT&T being how Verizon is attacking them with the map coverage ads. Maybe they’re working on updating the Triangle’s data speed to 7.2 mbs…. I can dream right?

this is the first time i’ve ever had trouble with coverage honestly so i suspected something was either wrong with my phone or wrong with their system.  thanks for the update.  it helps.

I am so over AT&T’s poor coverage of Raleigh. I can’t even get service at my house. I think I’m about to abandon the uberphone and head over to Verizon.

HAHA!  Good thing I have Sprint. The nation’s fastest (no seriously, not AT&T or Verizon, seriously) and most dependable 3G coverage, and first 4G (8x to 10x the speed of 3G, seriously: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UW8r52Ion3M) carrier in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, Greensboro, Burlington, Siler City…  Chicago, various cities in Texas… and many more to come in 2010, all before AT&T even begins to implement 7.2!  Time to switch folks!  Get the Palm Pre; it will make your iPhone look tired!

Good to know. Honestly first issue I’ve had with coverage. All I know is I can always get signal when my sprint friends can’t. smile so I’m good with my iPhone thanks.

    land lines are coming back.

I get 4-5 bars everywhere I go in Raleigh, so I don’t really understand what the complaints are all about.

@Ladye Jane No carrier will guarantee any service inside your house or give a crap about claims that you can’t get good service inside your house. That’s not really a valid complaint. I think every carrier has language addressing it in their contracts now.

  • jim11/23 04:28 PM

justelise—i don’t think ladye jane’s said anything about a breach of contract.  it was just her stating a fact, and a reason why she might switch.

i’m glad you have coverage.  apparently, not everyone else does.

  • Brian11/23 06:40 PM

Whether or not it’s a complaint that service providers will entertain, not getting service inside one’s house is certainly a valid complaint.

I’m sure we’ll all see that 1/30 credit on our bills since they did not provide the contracted service today.  Or maybe I’ll just deduct that much from my payment and attach an apology note.

  • ford11/24 10:35 AM

at&t has been spotty for the past month or so, not just yesterday. not bad enough that i’ll abandon the iphone, but enough that i hope the antitrust legislation about carrier exclusivity the fcc is workng on will go through

I switched to AT&T in October. Had Sprint for two years, but wanted the iPhone. I have great service everywhere in Raleigh except for my house. If you are familiar with Sanderson High School, then you know my area. It’s ridiculous. I was trying to sort out a mistake on my bill and had to call back three times because of dropped calls. Is there anything I can do about it, like call someone to have it taken care of or is that area just bad?

  • sally11/24 12:03 PM

There are only a couple of places that I drop calls on AT&T. One spot on Weston Parkway (Cary) and driving past the RBC Center on Wade Avenue. Coverage is fine in my house and in my office.

(I don’t know about the SHS area though, Nate. I haven’t spent much time there since the early 80’s.)

  • Jerry Jones11/24 04:02 PM

Nate buddy, if you lack coverage in your house, you might want to try the 3G Microcell from AT&T.
