We started our Jackpot goodbye make-out-session a week ago. While initially we were careful not to give a close date, soon confirmation that closing would happen any day came in. The bar saw a raucous weekend of rambunctious patrons tieing one on and singing their farewells. Well our sources, including the Jackpot’s own employees were wrong. The Jackpot isn’t closing this week or next, but we do hear things are on shaky ground. Michael. D’Ameilio, the owner really appreciated the love from the city and says that indeed a closing is coming, he just doesn’t know when.
Preservation NC is working to save the attached ‘Green’ house a 1906 built home that has fallen in disrepair but is hoped to be relocated rather than demolished. In addition the roof of the Jackpot is in disrepair and fixing it would cost more than the value of the building. D’Ameilio commented that the landlord has been very cooperative in working to keep the bar open. He is also working with the landlord and Preservation NC to keep the Jackpot open as long as possible, but this relocation project may spell the end of the Jackpot.
So you may have said your goodbye, but wouldn’t it be nice to get a few more quickies in before you really say goodbye. Yeah we thought so. See you there.

Jackpot Preservation NC Michael D'Amelio
That’s good for those who hold Jackpot close to them.
That said, if it is going away, I hope it does so with some dignity, and doesn’t turn into one of those things that just won’t end (like Brett Favre and the All Black Van).
Were all your sources wrong, or just the ones you made up?
Well, at least those “internet rumors” have given the Jackpot staff a little notice before they lose their jobs.
My hunch is that Preservation NC will fail at relocation efforts for the green house. Other than some nice woodwork and tilework (if any of that actually remains), the house is a structural nightmare. The house couldn’t be economically moved. As for the jackpot roof, it may be in really bad shape, but from what I see it is only leaking at the corners where the scuppers are. A few five-gallon buckets of roofing cement might solve that problem temporarily. Unfortunately, it seems that the only things that are ever repaired AT ALL at the Jackpot are the beer coolers, but since no one seems to care I guess that is OK.
*facepalm*
you know, we all joked it was a plot to drum up business. I have more faith in these guys than that, but it’s kinda fishy. They certain made some money this weekend (at the cost of everything that wasn’t nailed down…)
The building is going in the near future to make way for the developement- if it gets final city approval.
well done, JP. hipsters’ wallets pwnt and repwnt.
Seems as though if it was a “plot to drum up business”, that it would have made more sense to close the Jackpot and play that game with the Rockford. It at least had a plausible future in front of it.
^With language like that, you must be a CSC. Please keep it to EB2 and your video game fantasy worlds. The NR boards have a little bit of dignity, we don’t need people in here speaking pimplese.
^that one to Clem, sorry.
“The NR boards have a little bit of dignity…”
That’s the funniest, most obtuse comment I’ve read on here in a while.
Already heard that there will be 6 DJs there tonight. If this was a plot to drum up business (which I don’t think it was) it will backfire because everyone now assumes they are closed.
I already said my goodbyes. I don’t need to wade through a sea of a-holes again.
it’s just like breaking up… you say your goodbyes, swear it’s the last time… and then go back for more anyway
@karen: the only people who “think” it has already gone out of business are the outsiders. The patrons who matter will be there: Our friends, the regulars, our bartenders and the people who have come to see us play for the past 8 years.
Pancakes - You sound like an elitist. “Outsiders”. Really? If being an outsider means not having to rub elbows with hipster wannabees that refer to people as “outsiders”, well you can just call me Pony Boy!
*shrug*
rising from the ashes like a phoenix….it’s poetic
I really hope they put something there that has character. Maybe not the old run down type of character the green house had, but character none the less.
