Back in 2003, I was invited by some friends to see a comedian/ventriloquist at Charlie Goodnight’s on Morgan Street. It was for a friend’s bachelor party and I said to myself, “Hell, anything is better than a strip club.” It was my first time in Raleigh for years and definitely my first time at Charlie Goodnight’s. Jeff Dunham was the main act that night. From the first puppet he brought out until the last words from his mouth, he entertained the crowd far beyond expectations. Everyone in my crowd continued to mimic Dunham throughout the rest of the evening.
Since then, Dunham has had multiple television specials that were made into DVDs and has captured a multi-generational audience with his characters, Walter, Peanut, Jose Jalapeno On A Stick and more. Last time he was in Raleigh was at Progress Energy Center in September of 2007. The RBC Center will be a bit more of a task to fill up.
