While Joe’s Place will not become Moe’s Place, it will become a new restaurant in the coming year. It closed in January 2009. The N&O reports that the lights have finally been turned off at Joe’s Place on West Martin Street, but not for long….
Sciolino, 55, has found a buyer for the business, although he said Monday that the ink had not quite dried on all the paperwork. He declined to name the new owners but said the space would reopen as a restaurant.
The purchase price included nearly everything in the restaurant. Sciolino kept a few neon signs and several of his favorite pots. He said that on Saturday, when he removed the giant neon sign that featured him and his mother, “my heart stopped for a second.”

Ours too, Joe.
It is never too soon to start predicting the new restaurant’s demise or mock its business plan. Come on, who wants to go first?
Gluten free cereal bar!
That April Fool’s story was Cable Guy-creepy.
Has any “holiday” outlived its usefulness like April Fool’s Day?
Gosh, I sure hope it’s a pizza place!
Maybe a pizza place with a black fence.
I hope its a straight friendly business.
It’s going to be a bar/restaurant/club combo complete with rockabilly music and pin-up girls. Oh, and pomade.
You all are too funny! Let’s meet for drinks?
Let’s turn Joe’s into a treat shop for over-privileged dogs who are carried around in handbags.
I heard it was going to have a Jersey Shore theme, with Ed Hardy wallpaper and hair gel dispensing tanning beds in the bathrooms.
I heard it was going to be a Locally Sourced Beard and Fixie Emporium. Finally Raleigh will be a real city. I’ve been to New York, don’t you know.
Nice to see nothing has changed here.
I’d be happy if it were anything. I’d rather see a Jersey Mike’s in that place (and do well) rather than have an empty building.
Drove past today and they had the door open. Looks like they’ve taken over the West at North sales office next door and taken down the wall between the two spaces. As such, I think it’s safe to assume that the interior will be a good deal different.
