The Southern Food Alliance is an amazing group that is working to preserve southern food culture, Atlantic Magazine called it "this country’s most intellectually engaged (and probably most engaging) food society." Their Stir the Pot events hosted by Poole's are benefit dinners designed to support the group. They are opportunities for out-of-town guest chefs to visit and bring their work to Raleigh. This Sunday, John Fleer, a James Beard nominee from Tenessee will be cooking. Fleer recently relocated to Cashiers NC to work at Canyon Kitchen where he serves "root beer glazed pork and Spanish-inspired fig and almond cakes." Fleer is recognized for his perfection of 'foothills' cusine. Along with Fleer's Brunswick stew, Foothills Brewery will be the beer provider and the night will feature Fox Liquor Bar drinks.
If you can't make the Sunday dinner, check out the Monday night Potluck benefit, a community gathering with Fleer as the guest of honor.
