Kings Barcade has started booking shows for their new location on Martin Street, which will open its doors on Friday August 27th for a Royal Re-Opening, with The Spring Collection, The Royal Nites, and The Tomahawks.
Shows thus far include a full Hopscotch Fest weekend, Valient Thorr w/ Junius (!) and Howl on September 8th (this is a Hopscotch pre-show and Hopscotch ticket holders will receive a discount on tickets), The Thermals on October 16th and more. The full schedule is over at Kings Barcade’s new (and under construction) website (which is being designed by Gamil Design).
The Kings crew opened the doors of their basement bar Neptune’s Parlour back in July and it seems to be doing very well. The newly renovated space is much better than either of the previous two bars in the same location (Lizzies and Alibi…
). The restaurant, The Garland, will hopefully be ready by Hopscotch (or possibly a takeout window until the space is finished).
If only there was a tunnel between Foundation and Neptune’s, you’d never have to leave the underworld.

When did the Fallout Shelter occupy 14W Martin Street, or is this a different Fallout Shelter from the one that used to be in the space Flex is now?
More Raleigh tunnels!
Super excited about this, especially for Nachtmystium, Zoroaster, Dark Castle, Atlas Moth on Sept. 24. Also a quick plug for my own free day party from 1-5 Sept. 11 at Kings with Black Skies, Caltrop, MAKE and Hog
Good call Jason!, that was my confusion b/c I always see the Fallout Shelter sign outside of the basement and think that’s where the bar was.
Karen, thanks for the plug for your show. We plan on doing a full post of all the day shows very soon!
the return of bandway is the greatest thing. god bless everyone.
Heh, I didn’t say it never happened, just that I hadn’t heard of it (it would have been neat if the Fallout had had _two_ basement locations!). I could spend way too much time nerding out about Raleigh bar history arcana.
Go Kings!
bandway! yes. 4 day weekend!
Nothing was ever in the basement at 14 W. Martin Street prior to Lizzies. It was still an unfinished basement as late as 2002, if memory serves
Totally down with tunnels connecting Raleigh underground!!
yeah. fallout was never there. there are tunnels running along the tracks from ncsu all the way into downtown, but i don’t think any of us would wanna walk in 130F steam halls just to get a basil smash.
No love for The Thermals? That’s a really big deal for King’s. I’m sick that I’ll be out of the country then.
Whether there are tunnels running along the tracks from NCSU to downtown is highly dubious, but I am no expert on this matter. IF there are tunnels, the chances of said tunnels conveying steam to/from NCSU and downtown is nearly 0%.
I’m already over this place, yo.
I love the Thermals and the show should be great, but Kings has had much bigger bands in the past and will have much bigger bands in the future.
Is there a cover charge?
Show on Friday moved to Slim’s.
Is tonight happening?
Saturday’s show IS ON! The lowdown: doors 8:30, Starmount 9:30, Dynamite Bros 10:30, Bandway (the return!) 11:30. $8. Word on the street is that this show will start on time, too.
Tried to get into the show at 12pm. Doorman at street level hesitated to let my friend and I in, but did b/c we had Neptune’s memberships. Guy at upstairs door wouldn’t let us in b/c they were ‘booked up.’ I looked inside, saw plenty of room to move, but what do I know? I said, but the other doorman said we were cool. Guy: What’s his name, then? Me: I don’t know. Guy: Do you even know what band is playing? Me: I just want to drink a beer with my friends, man. Guy: Well there’s an $8 cover so if you just want beer, go downstairs. Me: oh. I’m ok with a cover. Guy: The show’s over anyway. Me: Well then why still charge me a cover? Guy: You two should just go downstairs.
Yup, not going there again, which is a shame, b/c I loved the old Kings.
