Kooley High releases their highly anticipated new album in late July but there is plenty of their material to check out before then. The talented Raleigh group has released a bevvy of mixtapes and solo projects in the past few years. In the coming weeks we plan on reviewing some of this great material in anticipation of the new album. Most recently the group’s only female member, Rapsody, released a mix tape with work from 2007 until now. After signing last spring with 9th Wonder’s new label Jamla Records, Rapsody seems to be on the brink of stardom.
9th Wonder is certainly excited about Rapsody, in the video below he claims she is “one of the most gifted MC’s I’ve ever worked with,” and this is from a producer who has worked with Jay-Z, M.O.P and De La Soul. The bulk of the production is handled by 9th Wonder and the result is spectacular. In the video below Rapsody also plugs a new Mixtape project of all new material called Return of the B Girl. We will be sure to keep you posted when it is released. Rapsody is young but brings a strength and confidence required to be a female MC. Her mixtape cover references paper silhouettes, and intentional or not, restates a connection with another powerful black female artist: Kara Walker. Dig deep into Rapsody and explore her work, below links to the mixtape and the slick videos from Price Films:
