Lego Store Open in Crabtree Valley Mall

Yesterday the Lego store opened in Crab Tree Valley Mall.  The small shop is a replacement for the Sharper Image store that occupied the space previously.  With much of the floor space consumed by the stock room and office- Lego has created a small but colorful store that showcases the brand’s core offerings.  Included in the store is the Pick a Brick Wall - a wall of individual lego pieces that customers can fill a cup with and pay a flat rate on.

The store also includes many hard to-find Lego products including a full line of Technics sets, Mindstorms, European urban areas and large scale models of the VW Bug and other vehicles.  The grand opening is planed for May 29th-31st and Lego has even put together a crappy Hatteras-like lighthouse set exclusive for the Raleigh store. Lego has done a nice Fayetteville Street mockup - complete with a Krispy Kreme truck, knights, and spacemen.  During the grand opening a masterbuilder will be on hand to build a ‘life-size’ Yoda.  We are anxiously awaiting Lego moving on beyond the Star Wars theme.

Va, as a parent you know way better than me.  As an adult I long for the unaffiliated Lego’s domination.  Generic Space and Generic Knights were enough for me.  *returns to work on technics car*

I don’t think anyone ever gets too old for lego.  That said, there goes my paycheck.

Clearly, Lego makes good money with the Star Wars franchise (and also Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, etc.).

But as “educational toys” these items are much more about a build-this-exact-object-by-following-these-instructions dictatorship than the open-ended creativity encouraged by the giant tub of lego bricks.

I hope they have commercial, and private model jets. Do most lego stores have air planes?
