It’s almost that time of year when everyone calls in sick to work to go camp out in Durham for 4 days to enjoy the best documentary film gorge-fest in the country. The 2009 festival runs April 2-5, but begins with a little teaser next week featuring a few of last year’s top films (Man on Wire being a personal favorite from last season).
Crazy Love - Feb.12, 7:00 p.m.
Man on Wire - Feb.19, 7:00 p.m.
Both films are playing in Bay 7 of the American Tobacco Campus in Durham. Tickets are free for Full Frame members, and $5 cash only for non-members.
This year’s films will be announced on the Full Frame website March 5, with the screening schedule announced March 19. Once the selected films are announced, we’ll be putting together a Full Frame Guide to help you navigate the festival and plan your screening schedule.
About the films showing next week:
“Crazy Love,” directed by Dan Klores and produced by Fisher Stevens, follows a fifty-year love affair between a self-important lawyer and a beautiful young woman, which ultimately leads to scandals, deception, cruelty, and questions of forgiveness. In advance of Valentine’s Day, the film will screen on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. Running time is 92 minutes.
“Man on Wire,” a 2009 Oscar Nominee for “Best Documentary Feature,” was directed by James Marsh and produced by Simon Chinn. The film tells the story of Frenchman Phillippe Petit, who in 1974 held New York City in thrall when he balanced for nearly an hour on a wire suspended 1,350 feet above the ground between the recently erected Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. He crossed the wire eight times before being hauled off by the police. While Petit had already scaled Notre Dame and the Sydney Harbor Bridge to accomplish similar feats, the Twin Towers were his ultimate obsession and no obstacle would stand in his way. The film will screen on Thursday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. Running time is 90 minutes.

Durham Full Frame Documentary Film Festival
One of my favorite things about living in the Triangle. It’s amazing how many locals aren’t even aware of the festival’s existence.
