Night Life

Loft 135 opens above Riviera Resto

Riviera Resto has been open for over 2 years now and just in the past year they have opened their upstairs and downstairs. The restaurant works as as a lunch and dinner spot with fine dining on the main floor and basement. Upstairs initially started as a dance club of sorts but has now switched to a more bar based atmosphere called Loft 135.

One of the main problems of the upstairs space at Riviera before this weekend was the fact that it wouldn’t open its doors to patrons before 10pm. They had to turn off a lot of business that would then head around the corner to Slim’s, Landmark or The Raleigh Times. Loft 135 will not have this problem as they will be open at 5pm Wednesday through Saturday. The main changes made to the space are the addition of two (brand new) pool tables and a band of grafitti adorning the walls.  It’s the same space with a new attitude. The bar manager stated that new lighting will be added soon as well as a new sound system for the space. They also added a television which was playing surf videos while we were there.

Everyday will have a different drink special and as stated before, it’s open at 5 PM! Also, it has its own door from the street, so no more of that awkward walking into the restaurant space and saying you are going upstairs for drinks instead of eating dinner.

what a shame. what this city needs is an intimate supper jazz club (or burlesque), not more indie music and pool tables. Riveria had the vibe to pull it off, instead they went the safe route, which seems too safe for me or my expendable cash flow.

despite popular thought, there are a few of us in Raleigh either true jazz lovers and/or over 35 that would rather be entertained by a talented trio ensemble with a vibrant vocalist any night of the week.

Then where have you been?  I am a regular at Riviera and I have tried to spread the word about what a great venue the upstairs is but it never took off.  I don’t think they sold out——they are just trying to keep their doors open.

Cheers to you, ali. Being friends with the owner, I’ve seen the extraordinary effort they put in to making the upstairs of Riviera a place where people could enjoy all kinds of music. Don’t think because they added pool tables, the music will descend into Top 40 territory. George & Philippe will keep the atmosphere fresh & vibrant as always.

I was at the Loft the other night, and I had a great time!!  The drink specials are awesome, the mural on the wall is ridiculous!!!, and the music made me feel like I was in high school again.  It rocked!!  If you haven’t check it out, you need to!  You’ll see me there!!

This is horrible. I will never go there again. the bartender (Louis) was great but it seems like someone had a great idea but lacked the adequate follow through. My prediction is that Loft 135 will be been seen as a bad knock-off of other bars in that district that are barely hanging on and flop…flop flop flop… Drink at Alibi.

Really?  I’ve been there twice and I love it!  I can only sit around at times bar for so long so I love that they have pool tables.

Man I was up there last wednesday night and had a blast.  It was our first time up and there was a guy at the front door that kinda looked like chuck norris that recommended that we go up.  The music was not too loud, it was a good place to chill, I mean while we were there it was a mix of Punk, old school hip hop, reggae, rock.  I mean I heard neil diamond and The Ramones with a mix of Misfits and Sublime in there too.  I talked to the bar man Pete and as I found out he is also the Executive chef downstairs he and his Sous chef Jim tend bar and dj on wednesday nights.  Pretty cool we will definitly make wed nights our stop at Loft.  See you there
