art by Sean Kernick, LoveBug 2010 People’s Choice Artist
LoveBug is back! Eleven artists will compete on the sidewalk in front of Epona & Oak this Friday night in a bug drawing contest for local charity Toxic Free NC. The bugs they draw during the competition will go up for silent auction at Epona & Oak immediately after they’re done. Ryan “Rockerboy” Parker of Carolina Roller Derby fame will emcee the competition.
Friday is also opening night for the LoveBug exhibit of 22 different artists’ work on buggy and environmental themes in a variety of media. Proceeds from the sale of these works will also benefit Toxic Free NC’s work to fight pesticide pollution in our state.
Local graffiti artist & illustrator Sean Kernick has already won the LoveBug People’s Choice Award by garnering the most “likes” for his bug-alter-ego on Facebook. Kernick’s win has earned him an automatic seat in the finals round at LoveBug, and a chance to compete for the grand Bug Champion prize, held last year by Paul Friedrich.
The full list of participating artists is on Toxic Free NC’s website. Here’s the competition schedule for Friday night:
