This contemporary modernist residence saw many layers of collaboration throughout its lengthy design process, and has also won multiple area design awards. The project was originally commissioned to Frank Harmon. Vinny Petrarca and Charles Holden managed the project in Frank Harmon’s office before starting Tonic Design. Gail Borden, heavyweight architectural critic and professor of architecture, is said to have had a hand in the critique of the house design.
Tonic is a design/build operation, actually constructing much of what they design. They participated in the design of a majority of the interior spaces and finishes, and took the house from framing to completion, later finishing the kitchen as a separate project. Charles has since formed his own practice, Oxide Architecture.
This house has recently come on the market, at a price tag of $2.4 million, which explains the tour opportunity, made available by George Smart, Jr. Both Charles and Vinny will be at the house the day of the tour to answer questions.

Another oversized mcmansion.
Oh wait, it is “modern” that makes it ok.
Again, carry on.
Wow, what an awesome livng room area!
Looking forward to examining and picking apart construction details for my own personal use…
Wait, that’s okay right? ![]()
Beautiful home. I saw it while playing golf today out at Treyburn!
I am a supplier, customizing all kinds of architecture products for developers in China for any developers and builders. Hope to hear from you.
Took the tour on Saturday and all I can saw is wow. If I had the $2.4 mill to spend…
The attention to detail was amazing- from the fruit bowl carved into the kitchen counter to the heated towel racks in the bathrooms. It was an elegant balance of minimalist design (no knobs/handles on anything, had to claw my way out of the bathroom) countered with superfluous amenities.
it really is a beautiful, beautiful home.
6,383 square feet of clean lines and expansive views. There was definitely some amazing attention to detail, but there were also a few moments of disappointment. (Like unfinished drywall edges, exposed framing and insulation in the glass bridge)
Nothing that a competent do it yourself-er or basic handyman couldn’t fix… but also not what I’d expect in a $2.4 million dollar home.
