If The Silver Jews aren’t your cup of tea (they are at the Cradle in case you didn’t know)...then what better way to spend this Thursday night, which happens to be September 11th than listening to Metallica’s first album since 2003, Death Magnetic in a real live record store! Rock like its 1987!
A lot of reviews/fans are touting the Magnetic Death as their finest (and most raw) since And Justice for All…..A couple of tracks have been released by the band on their website over the past few weeks which are filled with fast paced guitars, a nice helping of double bass drum pedal and the typical Hetfield scruffy cadence. I have heard the album and true Metallica fans (are their still many around) should abide. It will definitely bring out the teenage angst in the listener. The imminent return of the metal genre is upon us or at least Harvey Milk, Disfear and Opeth (and now Metallica) say so.
If you need more Metallica background before listening, check out a copy of Some Kind of Monster. It’s an excellent documentation of the band’s post Black Album story. Whatever your opinion of Metallica before or after their commercial success, Schoolkids would love your attendance to their listening/purchasing party. And there’s free food! Maybe Metallica should have waited until Halloween considering their limited edition coffin box set.
I’ll save my teenage angst for Jay Reatard at Local 506 in Chapel Thrill on October 30th.

marco’s pizza?
well, metallica did gain a lot of their fanbase with the black album, but lost a lot of the “tried-n-true” crew because they sold out. i’m not a fan of metallica, but their first three albums are pretty classic and usually what metallica fans want to hear when they ask a DJ to “play some metallica, dude.”
Or go see Carcass at Volume 11.
