MGMT to Play Raleigh’s Memorial Auditorium in November

Surf-psychedelic-pop indie duo MGMT will play Raleigh’s Memorial Auditorium on November 3rd. MGMT is a band that seems to divide critics and fans. Their first album Oracular Spectacular produced a few indie pop hits (or as a friend put it this weekend “hipster anthems”), but the rest of the album was a bit of a let down.

On their second album, Congratulations (album cover above), released in April, the band seemingly rejected the pop hits for more sprawling ‘conceptual’ tunes. Either way, I’m sure the band will fill up Memorial in November. Best part of their new album is the wild video for Flash Delirium below.

Tickets go on sale Friday, July 17 at 10am at $36 (plus charges) here.

    Heard bad things about their live performances.

    @Elliot

    You heard right. No stage presence what so ever. If the crowd brings the energy, that saves the show. But, that can be a big if, especially around here.

    Saw them at Bonnaroo two years ago.  Couldn’t get anywhere near the stage and it was 2am.  No stage presence at all.  Kindof boring and I like their albums.

    That sucks they aren’t a good live act, according to the posts on here. Their new album has yet to grow on me, I suppose I like the catchy mainstream stuff from the first album. I am glad there is another concert, and 36 bucks isn’t bad considering how ticket prices have been so expensive to see anyone lately. Good to hear !

    @Will - I was at the exact same show, glad to see someone else noticed. The tent was crazy and the people were full of positive vibes, so it was not hard to have a blast.

    $36 + fees is not cheap, though. Im going up to the 9:30 in DC this month to see Deadmau5 for the same price… and that comes with a guy who cares along with the dopest light show on tour. If you really wanna see MGMT and dont wanna be let down, consider going up to Ashville for MoogFest over Halloween. They will be there, along with some killer acts who know how to deliver.

    Hey I saw them in Columbus OH and they must have rehearsed like crazy because they were really really good! The vocals are much better, the rhythm section was really tight… I’m going to see them again for sure. You can get an idea of the changes if you watch the SNL performance. I think they should do a double “Live at the BBC” type album. If they could get Tina Turner to do some back up vocals or overdubs… gold! They did ask the crowd at the end of that show if they were a good live act… and I certainly thought so, and I do agree that they were rough live before the release of this album… and I say that with some guilt because I’m not a hater. But they put in some work and I’m a super-fan!
