Moore Square Planning Workshop at Cobblestone Hall. Say What?

You’d think the most important aspect of this story was that the design for Moore Square was going forward with public input. But, it seems that the use Cobblestone Hall for the meeting is better news than the actual workshop. For the first time in years, the public will actually get to see and use the inside of the most prominent building in City Market (two years after it changed name and was slated for actual use). I’m surprised that the Greenshields website is still functioning.

That said, there will be a workshop to give your input on the future and current design of Moore Square. There are two workshops on Thursday September 9th which luckily fit right around the Hopscotch Music schedule (unless you can only make the afternoon session and want to go to a day party as well). Another piece of news to note is that Frank Harmon Architects are a sub-consultant for the project with Chris Counts Studio (who won the competition) as the Park Designer and Team Leader.

When do they decide what to do with all the bums that hang out in Moore Square?

Have you been down there lately? Between the bus station, the missions, and the park the entire area looks overrun with people like the guy in Hobo Erotica!

Hello. Cobblestone Hall is the back 1/2 of the old Greenshields building with the main entrances directly across from Big Eds. We have converted that portion of the building into a special events venue and we have booked many many events into 2011. If you have any questions about the space you can check out http://www.CobblestoneHall.com Here .is a picture of a recent event held in the space - cobblestone1.jpg

We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the Moore Square Planning Workshop meeting on September 9, 2010. Thanks.

Additionally, if the owner of this website has any questions about the actual venue, please contact me directly through the email I used to register on this site. Thank you!

The Black Dog Cafe was not the same building. Black Dog Cafe with Harvey Yancey Sr as the chef was across the street in the space now occupied by Rum Runners.

They need to clean up the homeless situation there. This past Friday my family (including 2 and 5 year old) were cursed at by two bums as we walked.

the ‘cleanup’ is on the way.  The salvation army is moving out of downtown and so will the food shelter next door.  City officials know that there it makes no sense to redesign Moor Square and spend all that monry, only to have a bunch of homeless people dropping cigarette butts and liquor bottles all over the place and sleeping on the ground.

The Salvation Army building move is probably next year since I believe they start contruction in October on the new building they purchased.

Joe is correct and hopefully everything will continue to move forward as planned. The redesign of Moore Square is a big part of cleaning up the entire surrounding streets, etc. Great news for all of us who work and/or live in that area.

The lack of sensitivity to the social conditions that led to the homeless folks populating the square is primarily the reason why they have been relegated to the square in the first place.
