Planet Earth Celebration
Saturday, April 18, 11a-6p
NC Museum of Natural Sciences, downtown Raleigh

The NC Museum of Natural Sciences, Burt’s Bees and the City of Raleigh are teaming up again for the second annual Planet Earth Celebration. The free event, aimed at raising awareness of the importance of environmentally responsible living, will take place inside and outside the Museum from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., rain or shine, on Saturday, April 18.

MEDIA EVENT: We are staging a “dumpster dive” from 1:45 to 2:00pm. This is a hands-on educational event that demonstrates how mindfulness and attention to waste can help divert trash from landfills with alternatives such as recycling, re-use and composting. Our dumpster dive, representing the typical American family’s waste but with “clean trash,” will feature the helping hands of John Replogle (Burt’s Bees CEO) and others.

At Planet Earth Celebration 2009, visitors can turn trash into treasure at the Kids Zone; experience eco-smart shopping in the Green Bazaar, and listen to Don “The Junkman” Knaack as he jams on instruments made from 100% recycled materials. New attractions include Burt’s Bees “Happy Burt Day” Bonanza Tent sale, Whole Foods “Bag Out in Style” Fashion Show, and the all inclusive Trash Parade. Plus, live music with the Connells, Violet Vector & The Lovely Lovelies, The Huguenots and Razpa.

More than 70 stations, inside the Museum and outside on the plaza and Capitol Grounds, will provide valuable information on sustainable innovations available in the Triangle. How To demonstrations range from Cleaning Green to Backyard Beekeeping. The Museum will also display winning models from the 9th annual North Carolina Sustainable Design Competition, which challenges college students around our state to design a building that incorporates “green” practices in an affordable and practical way.

On the podcast you listed some bands playing at this event? Is there a list somewhere? Other than the podcast, I can’t find any reference to who will be playing.

Well how’s that for service? Not only reporting the story, but reading it for those of us too lazy. I guess I’ve been skimming everything looking for an actual schedual. Thanks for pointing out what I should have already seen.
