Nancy McFarlane will be sworn in as Raleigh's mayor on Monday, December 5th at 7pm in the lobby of the Raleigh Convention Center.
Nancy McFarlane was voted to succeed Charles Meeker as Raleigh's mayor in October. Meeker has served as Raleigh's mayor since 2011 and has done a lot for North Carolina's capital city, specifically the revitalization of the downtown core. While Meeker will be greatly missed, we have a lot of confidence as to what McFarlane has planned to expand on the foundation left by Meeker.
Also sworn (back) into office will be District B representative John Odom, District D representative Thomas Crowder, District E representative Bonner Gaylord and at large representatives Russ Stephenson and Mary-Ann Baldwin. Eugene Weeks will be sworn in for the first time as City Council-member, although serving for over a year. Weeks took over for James West in 2010 after West was appointed to the Wake County Board of Commissioners. Randall K. Stagner was elected to replace McFarlane on the City Council and will be sworn in on Monday as well.
