As you can see in these photos, a small piece of the top of the NCSU bell tower was damaged in the funnel cloud fury that hit the downtown Raleigh area last night. It has been roped off today and workers are cleaning up the debris and hopefully fixing the pieces so that falling granite isn’t a concern. The clock was stuck at
6:55 overnight but looks to be back working.
A piece of the granite even made it over to Sadlack’s last night after the strike. (photo from the web)
I think Marty McFly called.

Pretty sure I watched this happen live on WRAL, from the tower cam. Greg Fishel was creaming himself.
Someone should check and see if anyone harnessed the energy for time travel.
To bad the whole thing didn’t fall apart. The structure is as hideous as the campus!
Fishel was creaming himself…not quite the uber cream of fran, but close. My favorite was the DR-5000’s ‘cone of silence’ he finally admitted. Whew, glad no one got hurt.
I like NCSU’s campus and I am a former student there. Luckily Raleigh has more things going on than to spend all the money on the campus unlike Chapel Hill. This coming from a UNC fan btw.
Wait a sec—made it to Sadlack’s via some person, or did it make it there on the fly?
looks like campus police would like to know who took that piece of granite so that they can ask for it back…
Claim it was a meteor, and is therefore in the public domain! ![]()
Lightning rods are a good thing!

I tried, but I could only get 1.19 gigawatts, and plutonium is hard to come by.
The bell tower clock stopped at 6:55 pm and not 7:55 as reported.
