Kay Hagan has issued a cease and desist order for Elizabeth Dole’s desperate 30 second ad. The ad in question uses soundbites from a representative of the Godless America PAC that attended a September fundraiser co-hosted by 40 people, including Senator John Kerry, to falsely suggest Kay Hagan is an atheist. The ad, shown below, ends with a picture of Kay Hagan and a voice over yelling “there is no God!” The voice does not belong to Hagan.
Kay Hagan, a former Sunday School teacher, held a press conference to refute the ad and also sent an email out with the following statement.
Elizabeth Dole should be absolutely ashamed of herself. I can’t begin to tell you how outraged I am that she has attacked my Christian faith.
Her latest ad is fabricated and pathetic.
Our nation is in a crisis and the only solution Elizabeth Dole has to offer is mud and slime and more of the same. Wall Street was just bailed out and our economy is in shambles and Dole is doing whatever she can to talk about anything BUT the issues.
Hagan has also responded with the following ad.
CNN’s Campbell Brown weighs in on Dole’s ad in the clip below.
Recently, we have seen how nasty politics can be. We must demand ethical conduct from our elected officials.
Update: Dole has responded with this letter and will continue to air the ad.

I have a big problem with an ad that includes voiceovers that aren’t Ms. Hagan’s.
Did Ms. Hagan attend the fundraiser co-sponsored by the Godless Americans PAC or not?
Get ‘em Campbell.
she attended a fundraiser in Boston at the Kaplan’s house. He is an advisor to Godless America. But according to Kaplan, it wasn’t a Godless American function. There was no banner saying “Godless Americans Welcome Hagan” in the dining room.
She did not pledge that that there is no God. She didn’t participate in a Satanic ceremony. John Kerry was there.
Dole is making spotty connections to slur a woman. Dole is coming off as quite the little spite queen. She does understand on Nov. 5, we all have to live together.
leave it to a good conservative christian to rise above the fray. i bet jesse would be proud…
Dole’s ad was as tasteless and downright vile as you can get. Attacking a Sunday School teacher’s faith is pretty low.
I would hope NC can do better than this. Maybe if Liddy had actually lived in this state for the past several decades—-or at least visited reguarly—-she’d know this isn’t something we’d approve of.
So much for class.
