We mentioned a few weeks back that we were hosting a Raleigh Christmas Bash at Kings Barcade on Thursday December 16th, 2010. We’ve assembled a handful of our favorite local performers and put together what we hope will be an fun evening of kitschy Christmas on Martin Street.

Our hosts for the evening will be Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus played by Downtown Raleigh’s own LOL comedian Trent Bowles and the Southern laughster Tony Woodard. Expect a ton of dirty Christmas jokes along the way and you may even get a chance to sit on Santa’s lap and take a photo for your fridge. Complimenting Mr. & Mrs. Claus on stage throughout the evening will be our house Christmas band Peter Lamb and Wolves who have assembled a large cast of trombones, trumpets and other instrumentalists to fill the stage. A few guests may show up to play with the Wolves as well.

The evening will start with the acrobatics of the limber duo Katie and Kaci of Acro-Entertainment and the defying tricks of Downtown’s favorite magician Magic Mike. Your Christmas memories may not be safe in your head. We have two performers who are the heads of a few young downtown bands that will be playing solo sets during the evening. Matt Douglas (of The Proclivities and The Small Ponds) and Bryan Costello (of Kid Future and may or may not be performing shirtless) will both give us some original Christmas tunes as well as some stripped down versions of their other songs.

Peter Lamb and the Wolves and the Claus duo will keep you warm in between acts and will also perform a handful of tunes from their new album (which is having its CD release show this Sunday at Humble Pie).

The Beast

Ending the night will be Durham’s up and coming hip-hop and soul group The Beast. (myspace) The Triangle area has been known for it’s indie rock for years but lately we’ve become huge fans of many of the hip-hop acts that have blossomed in recent years, including Inflowential, Kooley High, Rapsody, King Mez and The Beast. This will be their last show for 2010 in their hometown area and we expect them to bring out all their tricks and santa hats to end off the evening with a huge dance party.

AV Geeks will be providing us with some classic Christmas films that will be on display throughout the night. Kings Barcade is in the process of formulating a special drink for the evening that will definitely get you in the Christmas spirit. There will be album giveaways from a few of the bands and PBR (who is one of the show’s sponsors) will be doing giveaways throughout the evening from under the Christmas tree including a PBR snowboard. All bands will have albums and merchandise for sale that will be perfect last minute Christmas gifts.

But, the fun doesn’t stop there. An after party will continue downstairs at Neptune’s as the crew from Denmark Records present their Winter WonderDen. Denmark’s DJs will be playing a mix of funk, psychedelic, and electronic music spiced up with plenty of holiday tunes to get everyone in the Christmas spirit. There may even be some holiday themed video projections bouncing around the basement. Dancing will continue into the wee hours of the night down below. More on the after party in the next few days.

And Klausie’s Pizza Food Truck will be warming you up outside with their foil wrapped pizza all night.

We are working on a few more surprises for the evening and we look forward to seeing everyone out for a night of Christmas fun at Kings Barcade. Cost is $7 in advance (ticket link coming soon) and $8 day of. Doors will open at 8:30 and the entertainment will get going around 9pm.

I can’t help but notice you call it a “Christmas” party/bash/whatever.  As a practicing catholic jew muslim atheist hindu wiccan vegan, I am offended and thus will not attend.  I hope NR will be more PC in the future.
