This one is in parallel with WKNC's 45th birthday and will feature Stu McLamb (The Love Language), Juan Huevos, Lonnie Walker and Hidden Cat. We are huge fans of everyone one of the bands playing this show as well as keep our dial turned to WKNC 88.1 FM almost daily. Check out the show on Friday, October 14th and remember it's made free by PBR, Nice Price Books, Holly Aiken Stitch, Benelux Cafe and of course New Raleigh!

See below for more info or check out the Facebook Event Page

Stu will be opening the show with a RARE solo cover song performance! Suggest a good one in the comment section and he may play it!

JUAN HUEVOS
(Chapel Hill; Grip tapes)
Website

Juan Huevos, known to his fans and friends as J Waves, is a young buck dumb fuck. A CEO of the bedroom rap scene, an untalented white guy of the synth production scene, an underwear model of the music scene. Drunk off a fantasy world that mimics reality, the kid J Waves is crying one moment, flying high the next, charming his way into young hearts and not knowing what to do once he gets there.

Lo-fi beats when made by hand, hi-fi raps about things you can relate to.
Hi-fi beats when fucking with French electro producers or tall, black underground legends, lo-fi dirty south spits on some definite G shit. Like,
what exactly are you looking for here? Do you even know? Juan Huevos can deliver. He's happiest when it's simple, but we can go tech, oh yes we can. Maybe even sing a little.

Light one up (but not with Waves, he'll be too freaked out to leave the
house and you'll just be sitting there, hearing him talk about himself while
he pretends to be a good listener) and check out what it means to recognize real, because there is nothing fake about this guy. Egotistical as hell and revealing. A sense of entitlement dished out onto a plate of self-deprecation. Served hot. Eat it up, sucka.

LONNIE WALKER
(Raleigh; DiggUp Tapes)
Facebook Page
Bandcamp Page

Originally a one-man band, Lonnie Walker evolved from the solo spirit of Brian Corum into a collection of friends bound by their shared passion for music and visual art. After years of honing their sound while playing house shows and DIY spaces in Greenville, NC- Lonnie Walker garnered local support from classmates and peers immediately. Through the additions of Eric Hill, Justin Flythe, Raymond Finn, and Josh Bridgers; Lonnie Walker’s music has evolved through their many ever-sharpening performances. Their chemistry resonates through their most recent recorded works unlike anything the band has turned in to date. Their blend of rootsy americana and dance-party punk-rock has proven effective in its sound, leaving you with a sense that this is a band moving towards a broad horizon.

Is this an Onion article or is it real? PBR? Still? Really?

oh i guess you’re way “beyond pbr” dude.  anyone who enjoys these free shows (and a lot of people seem to- though maybe not you) should be thankful that PBR actually have people involved who are willing to help sponsor local artistic endeavors.  doesn’t mean you have to drink it (i think kings has all NC beers on tap), though lots of people still do.

    kong74 hit it perfect

We have 4 local sponsors, Nice Price Books & Records, Benelux Cafe in City Market, Holly Aiken Stitch and New Raleigh plus PBR, who are all gracious enough to support our monthly shows.

It’s really amazing to me that we have the type of community that supports each other like that and allows us put out of town acts like Ed Schrader’s Music Beat, Deleted Scenes, ArnHao, Netherfriends, Quiet Hooves and other really great bands in front of capacity crowds and its all thanks to these businesses helping out and making it a free show.

Even if you don’t like all the bands that get booked I’m not sure how any one could say bad things about that.

Well Nathan, allow me to explain.  You see, there are people whose default setting is to be negative regardless of what happens in town.  Just accepting that you might not like everything that comes out isn’t good enough… it is necessary to talk a gang of shit, that way other people become aware of how much more hip and ahead of things you are then the folks putting on the show.
